Learning from and loving running community events
This past weekend was a fun one out in Colorado Springs for the Pike’s Peak Ascent. Thanks to HydraPak, I was invited to guest-host the livestream with James Lauriello (playback can be seen here - it was my first time doing something like this and we definitely picked up steam as we went!) as Joe Gray and Allie McLaughlin took the win on a beautiful morning before an early season snowstorm shortened the marathon the next day.
Running has continued to stay consistent (yay consistency!) and just in time for the best season of the year for running: fall! It’s where we’re rewarded for summer miles and somehow gain a few extra seconds per mile at the same (or perhaps easier) effort.
What is your favorite season??
The week ahead brings Boulderthon, where I’ll be hosting a Mics, Miles, and Mocktails night on Friday (9/27 from 5 pm - 7 pm), a shakeout run on Saturday morning (9/28 - 7 am - 10:30 am), and a panel at the expo Saturday with PUMA athletes Molly Seidel, Dakotah Lindwurm, Rory Linkletter, also with Scott Jurek and Maor Tiyouri (9/28 at 2 pm). On Sunday, I’ll be riding in the lead truck with Kara Goucher for the 5k, which has $40,000 worth of prize money. Athletes like Gwen Jorgensen and Sara Hall (both prior podcast guests), Emma Coburn, Charlie Lawrence, and others will be running. It should be an awesome 5k/10k/half and marathon morning!
If you’re not racing this weekend, put it on your calendar for next fall in Boulder for sure!
In podcast-land: I’m excited to announce that Hyperice is a new sponsor of the pod! They are a brand I’ve loved for the last decade beginning when it was just Normatec with their recovery boots. If you’re looking to step up your recovery game, check them out and use code LONGRUN10 for 10% off. I recommend the compression boots or Normatec GO for an even more portable version at about half the cost.
I’ve been remodeling the “home studio” where I record in-person episodes, and we’ve got two exciting recordings later this week to kick it off with Molly Seidel and Dakotah Lindwurm, both returning for another round on the pod!

This month, we sat down with Zoë Rom to talk all about her recent podium at the Leadville 100. This conversation was inspiring, moving, and sometimes, a little silly.
In this episode, we answer the question: How does a runner go from self-described bench warmer to podium finisher at one of the most renowned 100 milers in the world?
Listen to find out. 👇
